NEW FARM BUSINESS MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE COMING THIS DECEMBER
(November 16, 2006, Guelph) - Mark your calendars now to attend the Farm
Business 2020 Conference on December 13 and 14, 2006 at the Holiday Inn, Guelph.
The conference will provide producers, agribusiness, organizations/groups,
advisors and other attendees with pertinent information about the opportunities
and challenges facing the agricultural industry from a farm business management
perspective.
The Farm Business 2020 Conference offers a forum to find solutions and share
information about the issues, resources, and opportunities pertaining to farm
business management. Peter Vander Zaag, Chair of the AMI Advisory Panel,
explains “Farm businesses are facing numerous challenges in today’s agriculture
industry but they are also seeing many new opportunities. Join us as together we
explore the new farm business management opportunities at this conference.”
This conference is a collaborative effort between the Agricultural Management
Institute (AMI), the Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource
Economics-University of Guelph, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
Conference presentations include:
• The second annual Research Update on Agribusiness and Food Economics -
features updates on current economics research topics including International
Trade in the Post-Doha World, Economics of Food Safety, Environmental Economics
of Agriculture, and the Economic Impacts of Land Use Changes in the Greenbelt.
• A Global Perspective on Agriculture and its Potential Implications in
Ontario- an address by Jack Wilkinson, President of the International
Federation of Agricultural Producers.
• Farming: A Sunset or Sunrise Industry – a presentation focusing on the
opportunities and challenges for agricultural-based industries by Richard Worzel,
one of Canada’s leading futurists.
• Farming’s Changing – Management Should Too – comments by David Sparling,
Executive Director of the Institute for Agri-Food Policy Innovation.
• Producer Panel - a panel of producers discussing their own success
stories of business management innovation.
