Agri-Food Entrepreneurs, Farmers and Small Companies benefit from new courses
April 25, 2002 For immediate release Guelph, ON --

Value- added products are an integral part of a progressive agricultural industry and increase the profitability of Ontario’s agri-food sector.

This message was emphasized by Tom Smyth, AAC Board Director, during his address to the Guelph Food Technology Centre’s (GFTC) Annual General Meeting today. However, farmers, rural entrepreneurs, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) often need assistance to enter a “value-added” marketplace. That’s why funding is directed to the GFTC for the development of new courses that will be available to SMEs - at cost, priced under $100.

The AAC encourages the Centre’s efforts that deal with many agri-food business issues including food safety and quality, new and innovative technologies, packaging, product and process development.

The AAC is a non-profit coalition of 54 agricultural, agri-business and rural organizations working together to support Ontario’s agricultural sector and rural communities. The Council promotes partnerships and projects, such as this one, that ensure the long-term competitiveness for the agri-food sector. The AAC receives its funding through Ontario’s share of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Canadian Adaptation Rural Development Fund.
