Past AAC Programs
CanAdapt

With 679 successful innovative projects to its credit and an investment of $75.4 million in Ontario’s agriculture and agri-food industry over more than eight years, CanAdapt, the Agricultural Adaptation Council’s (AAC) flagship program came to a close in the summer of 2004.

Since it was created in 1995, the CanAdapt Program was the nucleus of all the AAC’s activities in Ontario. The program was established under Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s (AAFC) Canadian Adaptation and Rural Development (CARD) fund to assist in the development and adaptation of Ontario agriculture.

In 1998, CanAdapt was expanded to include the Small Projects Initiative (SPI) Program. CanAdapt was further expanded in 2003 to include the Value Chain Initiative (VCI).

CanAdapt has been highly successful in directing funds to adaptation projects that were identified as priorities by Ontario’s agricultural and rural community at both the local and provincial levels.

CanAdapt Small Projects Initiative (SPI)
CanAdapt SPI was launched in 1998. SPI funds were targeted to small-scale projects.

The goal of the CanAdapt SPI program was to assist applicants, with limited resources, on marketing and human resource development projects.

CanAdapt Value Chain Initiative (VCI)
CanAdapt VCI was created to assist in the development of strategic links and alliances among producers, processors, distributors and retailers.

The goal of the CanAdapt VCI was to identify benefits from market-driven opportunities by forming long-term alliances with strategic partners operating at different levels of the agri-food value chain.
